Joseph Otayek is director of the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC). During Lebanon’s economic collapse, he led the development and implementation of a strategic risk mitigation plan, enabling the medical center to navigate this and other crises with minimal impact. He also managed the operations and led the negotiations for the acquisition of Keserwan Medical Center, AUB’s first community hospital.
Prior to joining AUB in 2020, Otayek was CEO of Hotel-Dieu de France university teaching hospital in Beirut for over 17 years, where he reorganized the hospital at both levels, human and material, positioning it among the top Lebanese university hospitals. In 2011, he co-founded a consulting firm whose mission is to transform healthcare systems, hospitals, and institutions. Otayek holds a BE from AUB in mechanical engineering, a DESS in hospital and biomedical engineering from Université de Technologie de Compiègne, and an MBA from INSEAD. In 2007, he was awarded by President Jacques Chirac the title of Knight in the French Order of Merit.
