A Program with a Growing Legacy

Since its launch in Summer 2018, SREP has grown steadily:

  • 2018: 8 students participated in the inaugural edition
  • 2019: 15 students engaged in research across advanced materials, thermal physics, astrophysics, modern physics experiments, and computational physics
  • Post-COVID return: A record 25 students joined the third edition
  • Subsequent editions have featured high-quality research presentations showcased at the closing ceremony
  • SREP continues to attract scientifically gifted students eager to explore physics beyond the classroom

Program Structure

Weeks 1–3: Research Engagement

Selected participants will be integrated into active research groups within the department and will:

  • Conduct hands-on experimental work in research laboratories
  • Engage in theoretical physics projects under faculty supervision
  • Participate in computational modeling and data analysis
  • Develop research, analytical, and presentation skills

Students work closely with professors and graduate assistants, gaining insight into academic research and potential future career paths in physics and related scientific fields.

Week 4: Research Presentations and Project Completion

The final week of the program is dedicated to the completion of research projects and student presentations. Participants will prepare and present their work to faculty members and peers, highlighting the knowledge and skills they developed throughout the program.

Physics faculty members, undergraduate and Graduate students, Family members are invited to:

  • Explore the department’s research areas
  • Interact with physics faculty members
  • Meet current physics students and alumni
  • Learn about studying physics at AUB

Eligibility and Selection

Admission to the research component of SREP 2026 is competitive.

Applicants must:

  • Demonstrate a strong interest in pursuing studies in physics
  • Submit a letter of intent outlining their motivation and academic goals
