Welcome to Research and Graduate Education at AUB Faculty of Medicine. At the American University of Beirut Faculty of Medicine (AUBFM), research is not a side mission, it is the engine that powers everything we do. It shapes our education, drives our clinical care, and defines our contribution to science and society. From the molecular level to the bedside, our research ecosystem is built to generate knowledge, solve problems, and train the next generation of leaders in biomedical and health sciences.
Our foundation begins with strong research programs embedded in every department, led by faculty who bring international expertise and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Surrounding and amplifying these efforts are two core engines: INSPIRE, the Institute of Preclinical Innovation and Research, and the Clinical Research Institute (CRI). Together, they provide an end-to-end pipeline for discovery, development, and implementation, transforming promising ideas into validated impact.
Our campus is home to an NIH-accredited Animal Research Facility, world-class core laboratories, and a dedicated Clinical Research Unit (CRU). All these resources, core facilities, high-end technology, animal models, sequencing platforms, and training hubs, coexist just steps away from the AUB Medical Center (AUBMC). This physical and intellectual integration is a rare asset, allowing rapid movement from preclinical models to patient care and back again.
We foster a deeply interdisciplinary culture through the AUB Genomics Institute of Precision Medicine and several established Centers of Excellence, which span cancer and stem cells, cardiovascular, renal and metabolic diseases, immunity and infectious diseases, genetics, neurosciences, and drug discovery. These centers bring together basic scientists and clinical experts in an environment that thrives on co-creation, mentorship, and real-world application.
What makes our ecosystem truly unique is how seamlessly it all comes together. Imagine stepping into a connected space where you can design a molecule, test it in a disease model, analyze it through next-generation sequencing, run the data through advanced bioinformatics, validate it clinically, and teach it to the next cohort of students, all within steps of each other. This is the AUBFM-AUBMC advantage. This is what allows us to tackle the region’s most pressing medical challenges with speed, rigor, and impact.
In the same vein, graduate education is a central pillar of our mission. AUBFM offers outstanding Master's and PhD programs in fields such as Physiology, Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Neuroscience, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics, Microbiology and Immunology, and Cell and Developmental Biology. These programs are designed to equip students with the technical expertise, critical thinking skills, and research acumen needed to excel in academic, clinical, and industry settings. Our faculty actively mentor students through their thesis work and engage them in high-impact research from day one.
Whether you're a student looking to begin your research journey, a faculty member seeking collaboration, or an external partner exploring opportunity, we welcome you.
Whether you are a new student, a new faculty member, a faculty collaborator, or an external partner, we welcome you to AUBFM. Here, you're not just entering a research institution, you are joining a collective mission to advance knowledge, improve care, and shape the future of medicine, together.
